Immunization and Wellness of Children Provided at Nyle Hospital
Immunization is considered as one of the cost-effective and most important strategies for preventing disabilities and sicknesses during childhood and therefore, forms the vital need for any aged children. In turn, they prevent the spreading of diseases from one child to another. Moreover, the cost of immunization is pretty much lesser than the cost incurred in treating the disease. The side-effects caused by vaccinations are nothing when compared to those caused by complex treatments and high-end medications.
Most of the paediatricians follow the immunization schedule framed by the Ministry of Health department, Govt. of India. The schedule is as follows:
Infants – BCG and OPV (during birth)
Infants – DPT and OPV (at 6th, 10th and 14th week)
Infants – Measles vaccine (at 9th month)
Infants – DPT and OPV (Booster dose at 18th month)
Children – DT vaccine (5 years of age)
Children – Tetanus toxoid (10 and 16 years of age)
The most important dose of vaccines that must mandatorily be administered to children include Bacterial meningitis, Chicken pox, Diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, Flu, Haemophilus influenza - Hib disease or Type b disease, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Human papillomavirus (HPV), Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Pneumococcal disease, Polio and Rotavirus.
Side-effects of Vaccines
Most of the side-effects, if happened, seem to be mild and treatable. Paediatricians would inform parents about the possible side-effects associated with each vaccine. They are as follows:
Soreness, mild swelling or reddening of the target spot after few hours of administration of the shot
Mil or rarely high fever
Sleepiness or loss of appetite
Mild rash on the skin may appear between 7 to 14 days after injecting chicken pox or measles, mumps and rubella shots
Temporary joint pain after the shot of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine
Complicated or risky side-effects, such as very high temperature or trouble in breathing do not occur often. If the parents suspect for unusual side-effect, immediately seek doctor’s attention. Although such side-effects may increase parents’ stress, vaccines are life-saving steps to get rid of high-risk diseases. Sometimes, vaccines cannot prevent the disease completely, but can reduce the seriousness if the child happens to get infected.
If you had missed vaccination shots for your child, it is never too late. Vaccination can be administered anytime during the childhood phase in case of missed shots. It is important to seek the advice of best healthcare provider, if in case parents had forgotten to give the shots as per schedule or if the child has never been vaccinated during infancy period.
